About Me

🍂gaeul (가을 – Korean for autumn) + sky = gaeulsky™

My pseudonym originates from one of the hanja (what Koreans call traditional Chinese characters) characters in my name: 旻 or 민. The character can mean either autumn or sky or both.

….there is a harmony
In autumn, and a lustre in its sky,
Which through the summer is not heard or seen,
As if it could not be, as if it had not been!…

By using this pseudonym, I feel freer to release my drawings, music compositions, and written stories to the world. As an amateur, using pseudonym creates a safe space to release my work as I grow as an artist, composer, and writer. Also, since my career goal does not lie in arts or writing, the pseudonym is useful in keeping my hobby separate from work.

Drawing🎨 – My last art class was in elementary school (😅). I did take a crafts class in high school, but that’s different from drawing. I guess I never took a formal drawing because I feared the class would limit my choice of drawing subjects. I do have innate talent in drawing, which I inherited from my uncle, but I hope to get some formal instruction soon.

Music Composition🎶 – I scored a 5 on the AP® Music Theory test. I also play three instruments 🎻 and played in both string and full orchestras. I also love listening to movie and TV show orchestral scores, so their influences are quite apparent. Despite this, since I watch Korean, Japanese, and American entertainment, my tracks have a rather hybrid sound. The software that I use currently is MuseScore®, a program similar to Finale®. I currently release tracks on SoundCloud® and YouTube®.

Writing✍ – A 5 on AP® English Language and Composition and 4 on AP® English Literature and Composition and A’s in college English courses could reflect my competence in using the English language. However, writing can only improve with practice and more practice. I personally want to improve my vocabulary and creativity in sentence structure. My written blog posts will stem from personal reflections, poetry, fanfiction, and original fictional shorts.
